1.Joey doesn't know if he can trust Bobby after what he has done to him.
2.Bobby doesn't know if he can trust Joey to take him to Jim Thorpe.
3.Jim doesn't know if he can trust Bobby and Joey to help him.
4.Connection-In the second grade my friend said "The ice is thick enough." We ended up falling in.

Plot Line
key: R.A= Rising Action, F.A= Falling Action
R.A-conflict is introduced-Bobby comes to Joey's door.
R.A-Joey discusses the pros and cons about taking Bobby.
R.A-disappointment-They go back in time to see Jim Thorpe. He won't even make eye contact with them.
Climax-When they get home, Flip finds a way for them to go back in time to see him again.
F.A- Bobby and Joey learn the tricks of the trade in field maintenance at the polo grounds (aka baseball field).
F.A- Bobby and Joey meet Jim and other players on the baseball team.
F.A- Jim gets in a fight and quits the team, he comes back and loses the game for the team, and quits again.
F.A- Some kids jumped Bobby and Joey because they thought they cheated at a pick up football game.
Resolution-Bobby and Joey got away and go home - back to present day.
Historic Avents
Polo Grounds-There were lots of ballparks named the polo grounds in the 1800's.The New York Giants played there before moving to San Francisco.The baseball field was also more rectangular than diamond shape.
John Magraw-John Magraw played baseball for 30 years with the Giants. After that he became a coach. He wasn't very tall or big but the players wouldn't dare talk back to him.
Jim Thorpe-Jim was the first Native American to play baseball. He quit several times and came back. He competed in the 1912 Olympics in the pentathlon and decathlon. He won two gold medals that were taken away because he played pro baseball.
Charley Grant-Charley was a black man that John said was Native American to try to get him on the team. At this time Jackie Robinson hadn't broken the color barrier. In a game the opponent's coach found out he was black and he got kicked out of the league.
