COMPARING AND ANALYZING TEXT
Number the Stars and Stormbreaker - Hope and Loss
There are many similarities between the book, Number the Stars by Lois Lowry and the book, Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz. They both share the theme of hope and loss. In Number the Stars, Annemarie has lots of hope that the Nazis will go away and leave them be. She also has hope that Ellen will get back home safely. In Stormbreaker, Alex has hope that he can get to Mr.Sayle before he spreads the smallpox disease. In Number the Stars, the theme of loss is shown in one way by the sadness of death. Annmarie’s sister and her fiance die leaving a large hole in Annmarie’s life. Annemarie also experiences loss and sadness because her friend Ellen has to leave to go to Sweden to be safe. In Stormbreaker, Alex loses his uncle Ian, who dies from a gunshot on his job. All of these are examples of how the two stories are alike in the theme of hope and loss.
